Darrell Silvera

Darrell Silvera (birth name: Kingsley Redvers Silvera, born December 18, 1900 in St. Andrews, Jamaica, † July 22, 1983 in San Diego, California ) was an American art director and production designer, the best seven times for an Academy Award for the Design was nominated.

Life

A native of Jamaica Silvera began his career as a production designer and art director in the film industry in Hollywood in 1934 at the Kentucky Kernel film and worked throughout his more than forty years at the facilities of around 400 films and television series with.

At the Academy Awards in 1942, he was first nominated for the Academy Award for Best Production Design and together with Perry Ferguson, Van Nest Polglase and A. Roland Fields for the equipment in the black and white film Citizen Kane ( 1941). 1943 was followed by another nomination for Production Design in black and white movie The Magnificent Ambersons (1942 ), together with Albert S. D' Agostino and again A. Roland Fields. For the black and white film Flight for Freedom ( 1943) he received in 1944, together with D' Agostino, Carroll Clark and Harley Miller another nomination for the Academy Award for Best Production Design, as well as at the Oscar ceremony in 1945 with D' Agostino, Clark and Claude E Carpenter. for the screenshots in the black and white film Step Lively (1944).

In 1946 he was again nominated along with D' Agostino, Jack Okey and Carpenter for the Academy Award for Best Production Design in Black and White Film Experiment in Terror ( 1944), who was in the theaters under the title Experiment Perilous. Another nomination for the Oscar in this category was followed in 1956 with Joseph C. Wright for the black and white movie The Man with the Golden Arm ( 1955).

His seventh and final nomination for the Academy Award for Best Production Design Silvera received at the Academy Awards in 1971, together with Tambi Larsen for The Molly Maguires (1970). Most recently, he appeared in 1978 at the scene for the film with Driver.
