Darstein

Darstein is a municipality in the southwest, in Rhineland -Palatinate. It belongs to the municipality Hauenstein.

Geography

The small community is located between Pirmasens and Bad Bergzabern the Dahn Rockland in Wasgau. 59.9 percent of the district area is forested.

History

Darstein belonged to the dominion of the castle Lindelbrunn Leininger. The castle ruin is still above the village.

The name is very probably due to Heinricus dictus Darstein de Büdenkeim, mentioned 1309. 1386 specify sources the name Daxstein, probably due to a clerical error. Because 1411 is the personal name Henne Darstein registered and 1428 as a place name again Darstein.
