Das politische Buch

The political book is the prize awarded annually Literature Prize of the Friedrich -Ebert- Stiftung (FES) to promote important political literature.

Idea

Since 1982, the SPD Foundation awards close to the 10,000 Euro prize annually. The award ceremony takes place on the 10th of May or in temporal proximity to this anniversary of the Nazi book burning in 1933. As an institution that is committed to the ideas and basic values ​​of social democracy, the FES is distinguished from political literature. Current topics that it will specifically address are:

  • Democratic culture,
  • Innovation and participation,
  • Globalization based on solidarity.

Selection and jury

Applications and proposals for award winners are possible in each case to October 15. Here, the proposed book in German translation in the book market must be for foreign authors. The actual selection of the prize winner by a jury, which also compiles a list of other recommended values ​​political books.

  • Horst Baraczewski (* 1954), bookseller, an Executive Member of the Bremen Literature Foundation. Member of the jury since 1997.
  • Wolfgang Budde -Roth ( born 1939 ), retired librarian in the library of the Friedrich -Ebert -Stiftung. Member of the jury since 1983.
