Dashboard (Mac OS)

Dashboard (English for dashboard ) is a technology from Apple, since in Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger) by mini-applications called widgets that information be made available.

The program dashboard can be a key (usually F4) and one hidden. Widgets can usually be downloaded free from the Internet. Dashboard you can usually only be hidden, do not turn off. About additional utilities but you can completely disable it.

There are three ways to program widgets. The most common form is based on HTML, CSS and JavaScript. With version 10.5 of the operating system Mac OS X Dashcode was introduced, a program which aims to facilitate the creation of widgets considerably. Less common is the ability to create widgets using Cocoa, which opens up more possibilities for intervention into the system the developer. There are, for example, calendar, calculator, dictionary, weather forecasts and games.
