DaÅŸoguz Province

Dasoguz Welaýaty (formerly Ташаузская область, Taschausskaja oblast ) is one of the five provinces of Turkmenistan.

The province is located in the north of the country and is bordered to the north by Uzbekistan. At the border is the Sarykamysch Valley, where the Sarykamyschsee has formed. Large parts of the province are occupied by the Karakum Desert.

The area is 73,600 km ², its population (2006) approximately 1,391,000, thus resulting in a population density of around 19 inhabitants / km ².

The provincial capital is Dasoguz (formerly Taschaus ), other major cities are Köneürgenç and Yilanli.
