Data Radio Channel

System for Wireless Infotainment Forwarding and Telecommunications Distribution (SWIFT ) refers to a system for transmitting text and graphic information on the FM radio. Similar to the Radio Data System found in the SWIFT data transfer in parallel with the normal radio program instead, the charisma is bound to the respective radio station. Technically, the system represents the European version of the commonly used in Japan DARC system (Data Radio Channel)

Dissemination

The service was launched after a two -year pilot phase at IFA 1999 as a "Radio to read " the public and initially offered only by the Saxon Radio PSR. Also at IFA 99 " Textman " was introduced, a portable, battery -operated radio with SWIFT receiver from Sony (then price: about 300 DM). Although at the time many other radio stations wanted to offer the service, there has been no appreciable spread. Meanwhile, Radio PSR has set the SWIFT operation.

Comparison with radio text

In contrast to the widespread radio text and graphics and more extensive texts can be transferred with SWIFT. In which information is organized into pages and can be cached in the receiver. This SWIFT is more like the usual watching TV teletext.
