Datagram Congestion Control Protocol

The Datagram Congestion Control Protocol ( DCCP short ) is a transport layer protocol. It is about the transmission of media streams in TCP / IP networks used when a congestion control mechanism is to be used ( for dynamic adjustment of the transmission rate of the actual available bandwidth). The other frequently used for TCP protocol brings namely - for example through its forced confirmations - disadvantages in the timely delivery of " real time data " with it.

Features and Functions

DCCP was designed so that a simple change an application from UDP to DCCP is possible. To this end, the necessary features have been kept to a minimum and additional functions were shifted to higher layers. It can be used with any application that unreliable unicast connections with congestion control ( congestion control ) is required. DCCP allowed to choose one to suit the particular application overload control mechanism of the application.
