Dattatreya

Dattatreya (. Sanskrit दत्तात्रेय Dattatreya, m, lit: the triple- gifted ', Short Form: " Datta " ) is a deity of Hinduism. He is an incarnation of the three- form ( Trimurti ), that is, it combines the aspects of Brahma ( creation ), Vishnu ( preservation ) and Shiva ( destruction) in itself. It thus reflects the cyclical principle, inherent in all living things. In Indian mythology, he is the son of the sage Atri and Anasuya couple. Dattatreya is as Adiguru - that is, as the supreme Guru - considered.

He is depicted as a three-headed male figure in saffron Asketengewändern, which has six arms. He is accompanied by a cow and four dogs symbolize the four Vedas. The cow is called Kamadhenu, which fulfills all wishes. Often can be seen (a type of fig tree ), which is a symbol of the (divine) nectar in the background a Audumbara tree.

Dattatreya is the spokesman of the book Avadhuta Gita.
