Daubensee

The Daubensee ( dialect: Dubensee ) is located at the Gemmipass in the Valais Leukerbad in the Bernese Alps. He is one of the few lakes in the canton that are not reservoirs.

The Daubensee extends in a north-south direction over a length of about 1.5 kilometers and is at its widest point is about 400 meters wide. On the eastern side a nameless ridge with the Daubenhubel ( 2417 masl ), the Sheep Mountain, in the West as the highest authority.

From the south, the Lämmerendalu flows into the lake. The water flows from underground and emerges at the foot of a rock beneath the village of Varen VS back to the surface.

From Gemmipass leads from a good two -hour walk around the lake. The trail from Kandersteg to Leukerbad runs along the east side of Stave Lake.

On the last Sunday in July, on the eastern shore of Lake Daube takes the Sheep Festival, where together find each 800 sheeps.
