Daugirdas Å emiotas

Daugirdas Šemiotas ( born May 20, 1983 in Kaunas) is a Lithuanian boxer. He won a bronze medal in the light heavyweight division at the World Amateur Championship in 2007 in Chicago.

Career

Semiotas began in 1995 in Kaunas with the boxes. His coach is Vilius Buika. Already in the junior age he was one of the best Lithuanian boxers. Meanwhile, he is 1,82 m tall and boxing heavyweight ( class to 81 kg body weight). In addition to his sport, he runs a medical degree.

His international career as a boxer started in 2000 with an excellent 5th place at the Junior World Championships in Budapest in the light middleweight. In the European Junior Championships in 2001 in Sarajevo, he was more successful, for he was a middleweight junior vice-European champion. In the final of this championship he lost to Ilaja Bogdanov from Ukraine. In the same year he won with the seniors when Algirdas - Šocikas tournament at home in Kaunas at middleweight.

This tournament he won in 2003 with a Endkampfsieg over his compatriot Rikardas Bajka. He represented his country then already at the World Championships in Bangkok in the middleweight division, but dropped out after a defeat against Dimitri Usagin from Bulgaria already out before the second round and so came to 17th place.

For participation in the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens to Semiotas could not qualify. In 2005 he took after semi-final defeat against Wladimir ceramic from Belarus and Tony Jeffries of England both in Feliks strain Memorial in Warsaw as well as in Algridas - Šocikas tournament in Kaunas the 3rd place in the light heavyweight division. In the same year he also launched at the World Championships in Mianyang / China. He won there in the light heavyweight division over Flavio Furtado from the Cape Verde Islands and Zaur Taymanow from Qatar and was defeated in the quarterfinals against Mario Sivolja of Croats by points. He finished in a good 5th place.

2006 emiotas won the Algirdas - Šocikas tournament with wins over Sebastian Radkiewicz from Poland and Andrejs Barabanovs from Lithuania. At the European Championships this year in Plovdiv he triumphed over Ewgeni Chervnovol from Moldova, but was defeated in the second round against Constantin Bejenaru from Romania by demolition in the 3rd round and got away with it on the 9th Place.

In 2007 he was defeated at the Feliks strain Memorial in Warsaw in the quarterfinals against the world champion of 2001 and 2003, Evgeny Makarov of Russia on points and finished 5th. At the 2007 World Championships in Chicago he won the light heavyweight Elie Augustama, Haiti ( 19:3 ), Colak Ananikjan, Armenia ( 18:10 ) and Ramadan Yasser Abdelghaffart from Egypt ( 18:9 ) respectively on points. To his semi-final fight against Artur Beterbijew from Russia, he could not compete because of an injury. But by reaching the semi-final he had already won a bronze medal.

At the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing Semiotas was defeated in his first fight against Yerkabulan Schinalijew from Kazakhstan on points ( 3:11 ) and reached only the 17th Place. At the 2008 European Championships in Liverpool, he failed in the quarterfinals to Rene Krause from Germany.
