Daunte Culpepper ( born January 28, 1977 in Ocala, Florida ) is an American football player at the position of quarterback. He played for the Minnesota Vikings, Miami Dolphins, Oakland Raiders and Detroit Lions in the National Football League ( NFL). Currently, the Sacramento Mountain Lions for the United Football League ( UFL ) plays.

Career

Culpepper was born in prison and raised by his foster mother, Emma Culpepper. He studied and played at the University of Central Florida and was founded in 1999 as the eleventh player in the first round of the 1999 NFL Draft by the Minnesota Vikings for the NFL selected.

The three-time Pro Bowl participant (2000, 2003, 2004) was considered one of the best active quarterbacks in the NFL, before 2005, a serious knee injury drew upon. In the 2004 NFL season, he broke for example, the team record for the Vikings in touchdown passes (39 versus 34 Randall Cunningham 1998), and he threw the most yards ( 4,717 ).

After Culpepper had played from 1999 to 2005 for the Minnesota Vikings, he was discharged in 2006 against draft picks to the Miami Dolphins. Finally, as regards the NFL season 2007, he joined the Oakland Raiders, but did not renew his one-year contract at the end of the season. In November 2008, Culpepper moved to the Detroit Lions, although he had declared in September his retirement from professional sports. In June 2010, he finished his NFL career then finally and moved to the Sacramento Mountain Lions of the United Football League ( UFL ).

Resignation

4 September 2008 Culpepper announced in an open letter to the media his retirement from pro football. After the run-up to the 2008 no new employer had been able to find, he decided to end his career. Culpepper had since 2006 against teams represent themselves instead of the usual hiring an agent. In the letter to the resignation he gave this as the main reason for his persistent unemployment: "I understand now why you do not like it looks in the NFL, if a player gets to know the business side of the league in the NFL it is nowadays more and more about power., money and control held by the passion for the game. " This resignation, however, was short-lived, in November 2008 signed Daunte Culpepper signed a contract with the Detroit Lions.
