Dauphin (Manitoba)

Dauphin is a located in the Canadian province of Manitoba town of about 8,251 inhabitants. The place is located in the prairies, which in addition to the provinces of Saskatchewan and Manitoba still Alberta. In the immediate vicinity there are many farms and fields where corn is grown for the most part. To the south, the Riding Mountain National Park extends in a north - easterly direction is the Dauphin Lake.

History

Dauphin was originally a fort called Fort Dauphin. It was founded in 1741 on the shores of Lake Dauphin by La Vérendrye. With the construction of the railway in 1896, the settlement of the current local area began.

The current location of the place is different from the location of the fort and the old Dauphin ( Old Dauphin ). In 1883 the area was settled and Old Dauphin was founded by David McIntosh, in 1896 opened a store.

Between 1896 and 1898, many Ukrainians came to Dauphin, whose traces are visible even today. Among the approximately 13 churches of various denominations and groups, there is a Ukrainian Catholic Church.
