Dave Gagner

Dave Gagner ( born December 11, 1964 in Chatham -Kent, Ontario ) is a retired Canadian professional ice hockey player and current coach, who in his active from 1981 to 1999, including for the New York Rangers, Minnesota North Stars, Dallas Stars, Toronto Maple Leafs, Calgary Flames, Florida Panthers and Vancouver Canucks played in the National Hockey League. His son Sam is also a professional hockey player.

Career

Dave Gagner began his career as a hockey player with the Brantford Alexanders, for which he was active from 1981 to 1984 in the Canadian Junior Football League Ontario Hockey League. During this period, he was selected in the NHL Entry Draft in 1983 in the first round as a whole twelfth player of the New York Rangers. A large part of the 1983/84 season, the attacker missed because he was preparing with Team Canada at the 1984 Winter Olympics in Sarajevo. In the New York Rangers, the links Sagittarius could not pass completely through in the three years from 1984 to 1987, so that he very often for their farm team in the American Hockey League, the New Haven Nighthawks played.

On October 8, 1987 Gagner has been lodged with, Jay Caufield in exchange for Jari Gronstrand and Paul Boutilier to the Minnesota North Stars. With these he failed in the 1990/91 season until the playoff finals for the Stanley Cup to the Pittsburgh Penguins. The franchise remained loyal Canadians for another three years even after his relocation to Dallas in 1993. The shortened because of the lockout season 1994/95 he started the HC Courmaosta in the Italian Serie A1 and finished it with the Dallas Stars in the NHL. On 29 January 1996, the leaders of the Dallas Stars transferred the former national player along with a sixth- round option for the NHL Entry Draft in 1996 in exchange for Benoit Hogue and Randy Wood at the Toronto Maple Leafs. For the Canadians, he scored to end of season seven goals in 34 games and gave an additional 17 templates.

Up to end of his career in 1999 at the age of 34 years Gagner stood respectively at short notice at the NHL clubs Calgary Flames, Florida Panthers and Vancouver Canucks under contract. On the occasion of the Heroes of Hockey Game, which took place as part of the NHL All- Star Games, in 2001 he packed once the skates. From 2006 to 2008, the Olympian from 1984 for two seasons as an assistant coach with the London Knights of the OHL. Since June 2008 he has worked as Director of Player Development with his former club Vancouver Canucks in the NHL.

Internationally

For Canada Gagner participated in the World Youth Championship in 1984, and the 1993 World Championships in part. In addition, he was in the squad of Canada to the 1984 Winter Olympics in Sarajevo.
