Dave Gould

Dave Gould ( born March 11, 1899 in Budapest, † June 3, 1969 in Los Angeles, California ) was a native of Hungary choreographer and director who twice won the Oscar for best director and dance twice more for only 1936-1938 awarded Oscar was nominated in this category.

Life

Gould began his career as a choreographer and dance director in the film industry in Hollywood in 1932 the movie The Subway Symphony and collaborated on the creation of 36 films. Mid-1930s, he was one of the most important dance directors in Hollywood next to Busby Berkeley, Bobby Connolly, Sammy Lee or Hermes Pan.

At the Academy Awards in 1936 he won twice the first time and only until 1938 awarded Oscar for Best Dance Direction and indeed for the dance number " Straw Hat " in Folies Bergère de Paris (1935 ) and for the dance scene " I've Got a Feeling You ' 're Fooling " in the film Broadway Melody 1936 (1935 ).

1937 and 1938 Gould was then nominated twice for an Oscar in this category and first for the dance number " Swingin 'the Jinx " in Born to Dance (1936 ) and then for the dance scene in " All God 's Children Got Rhythm " in the film comedy The Marx Brothers: A day at the Races (1937 ). With his two Oscar wins and nominations - Gould was it the most successful choreographer and dance director in this category.

In the 1940s he also began to work as a director and filmed from 1942 to 1946 nearly thirty short films.
