Dave McLlwain
David "Dave" McLlwain ( born June 9, 1967 in Seaforth, Ontario ) is a retired Canadian professional ice hockey player who in his career 521 games in the National Hockey League denied and later was active for nine years the Cologne Sharks.
Career
The career of Dave McLlwain began in 1984 in his native Ontario, where he, like his father, Jack McLlwain first two years for the Kitchener Rangers, and later two more years for the North Bay Centennials played in the Canadian Junior Football League OHL. The Center, which always made in the junior league attention with good statistics, selected at the NHL Entry Draft in 1986 by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the 9th round in a total of 172 positions. In the season 1986/87 he was elected to the All- Star team the OHL and played for Canada at the Junior World Cup. After the season McLlwain was finally obliged by the Penguins for two years, but commuted back and forth frequently between the NHL team and the farm team. However, the attacker played the majority of games for the Penguins, but eventually start of the season 1989/90 was transferred to the Winnipeg Jets, where he has been consistently used in the professional team and in the first year even was able to reach the play -offs.
In the season 1991/92 McLlwain was exchanged several times. He started in Winnipeg, played the majority of the year with the New York Islanders, in the meantime, some games for the Buffalo Sabres and the rest of the season for the Toronto Maple Leafs. Then it was again a little quieter for McLlwain. Although he was transferred to another year in Toronto to Ottawa in 1993, but he played well in the season for the Leafs as well as the following two years with the Senators as a regular in the NHL. During his third year at the Senators of the attackers then stood, however, almost always in their farm team in Cleveland on the ice. Shortly before the transfer deadline moved McLlwain back to Pittsburgh, where he spent the rest of the season including playoffs.
After the Canadians in the 1996/97 season again mainly played in the Minor League IHL Cleveland and only four NHL games for the New York Islanders denied, he moved to Germany to EV Landshut. In its first European season convinced the striker, as with most stations in his career, as a team player with enormous visibility and constant use. However, the Canadians left the DEL again after just one season and went to SC Bern in the Swiss National League A. There McLlwain spent two very productive years in which he gained significantly more points than he played games and was one of the best players in the league.
Due to its good performance in Switzerland, McLlwain recommended for a renewed commitment in the DEL, so the Cologne Sharks committed the now 33 -year-olds for 2000/01 season. In the cathedral city of the Canadians prevailed as number -one center and was with the sharks 2002 German Masters. In the following years, convinced Dave McLlwain especially as a template donor, but certainly also as executor in the decisive games. In the years 2003-2007, the center forward has been invited five times in a row DEL All-Star Game. In the season 2005/ 06 was McLlwain together with the Düsseldorf gates Vikingstad best scorer of the preliminary round and the best presentation timer. In the season 2006/ 07, the Canadian was again the most successful scorer of the preliminary round and the best presentation timer, after which he signed in November 2007 for a further year in Cologne. 23 February 2008 McLlwain was elected to Cologne's Athletes of the Year 2007. In the 2007/2008 season, he played his 500th game in the DEL Cologne Sharks.
In the season 2008/ 09, in which it sporty very poorly ran for the sharks, the already 41 -year-old McLlwain one of the most consistent players has continued. For the All- Star game on January 31, 2009 in Berlin, he received an invitation for the sixth time - this time he led the North American team also captained an ..
