Dave Smith (hammer thrower)

Dave Smith (actually David Smith, born June 21, 1962 in Kingston upon Hull) is a former British hammer thrower.

In 1986, he won for England starting at the Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh. The European Athletics Championships 1986 in Stuttgart, the World Athletics Championships 1987 in Rome and the 1988 Olympics in Seoul, he was eliminated in the qualifying. In 1990 he won silver at the Commonwealth Games in Auckland.

Five times he was English Champion (1984-1988) and four times British Champion (1984, 1985, 1987, 1988). His personal best of 77.30 meters he set up in London on 13 July 1985.

His son Alexander Smith is also successful as a hammer thrower.
