The Davey River is a river in the far southwest of the Australian state of Tasmania.

Geography

River

The river rises on the north-western slopes of Coronation Peak in the Frankland Range, southwest of Lake Pedder. From there it flows initially about 2 km to the west and then turns its course to the south- southeast, along the western edge of the Frankland Range. At the 146th longitude he turns south and flows into the Payne Bay, the inner part of Port Davey, and thus in the Southern Ocean.

A portion of the lower reaches is called Hell's Gates, not to be confused with Hell's Gates, the entrance to Macquarie Harbour. The Davey River and its tributaries run its entire length within the Southwest National Park, a completely uninhabited area in the lead no roads.
