David Albelda

David Albelda Aliqués ( born September 1, 1977 in Pobla Llarga ) is a former Spanish footballer. Albelda plays mainly as a defensive midfielder and was from 1996 to 2013 at Valencia under contract.

Career

Clubs

His debut at Valencia he gave on 15 March 1998. 2000 and 2001, he contributed significantly to the achievement of the two Champions League finals. After Gaizka Mendieta left the club before the 2001/ 02 season, was new captain Albelda of Valencia. With his club he won the Spanish Championship in 2002 and 2004. In 2004, he won the UEFA Cup and the European Super Cup.

However, despite its great sporting achievements and his role as captain was Albelda, as his teammates Santiago Cañizares and Miguel Ángel Angulo, painted by new coach of Valencia, Dutchman Ronald Koeman, from the squad because it does not fit into his game system. Ironically, Albelda had recently extended his contract until 2011. Because Albelda this season already played more than four games for Valencia, it was not possible for him to move to another Spanish club. Albelda then moved with an unsuccessful at the end of an action before the court, which should force Valencia to dissolve Albeldas contract and compensate him with his uncommitted transfer fee of 60 million euros. Since Koeman failed in his system in Valencia, Albelda, however, was appointed in late April 2008 by the new manager Voro back in the squad. Under the new coach Unai Emery he belonged in the seasons 2008/ 09 and 2009 /10, most of the time to the permanent staff.

National

David Albelda played since his debut in the 2-0 away win against Liechtenstein on 5 September 2001 for the Spanish national football team. With Spain, he participated in three major Turnien, the 2002 World Cup, Euro 2004 and the 2006 World Cup, in part. At Euro 2008, he was not taken into account by Luis Aragonés. He also won in 2000 with the Spanish national football team at the Olympic Games in Sydney, a silver medal.
