David Alroy

David Alroy, David Alrui, actually Menachem ben Suleiman Al- Ruhi, (born 12 century in Amediye, Kurdistan ) was a Jewish scholar and pseudo- Messiah.

Life

David Alroy studied in Baghdad at the yeshiva Ga'on Ja'aqov and was " in the Torah Jisra'els, in halacha, the Talmud and in all the sciences of the Muslims ... versed ." In Amediye he stood up against the ruler of Persia, trying the Jews of the region gather to liberate Jerusalem and " them out of the bondage of the Gentiles ". He was jailed in the city Tabarik / Persia. Miraculously escape from there he went back to Amediye. Allegedly, he was murdered by his father in his sleep.
