David Alton, Baron Alton of Liverpool

David Patrick Paul Alton, Baron Alton of Liverpool ( born March 15, 1951) is a British politician.

Career

Alton was first a member of the Liberal Party and MP of the Liberal Democrats from 1979 to 1997. 1979 he was " Baby of the House". Since 1997 he is a member of the House of Lords as a life peer and sits there as a Cross Bencher. In February 2009, he announced his membership in the pan-European organization Libertas, which rejects the Treaty of Lisbon. Through membership Alton Libertas fulfilled the necessary criteria to be recognized as a European political party.
