David Andersen

David Emil Andersen ( born June 23, 1980 in Carlton, Melbourne) is an Australian professional basketball player who is active for Strasbourg IG since 2014. He can play at the power forward and center positions and is also a member of the Australian national team. He also has Danish citizenship, so it counts as EU nationals in European leagues. Andersen won one of the few players already three times the title in the highest European club competition ULEB Euro League. He also won in Europe with its various teams a total of eight national championships in Italy, Russia and Spain, and eight titles in domestic cup competitions. Since 2014 he plays for the French vice champion Illkirch- Graffenstaden Basket from Strasbourg.

Club career

Initially, for the Wollongong Hawks in the NBL active, Andersen moved to Europe in 1999. By 2003, he was active for children Bologna and won with this club 2001, the Italian Cup and the Euro League. For Montepaschi Siena he played a year he was again Italian masters, where he was named most valuable player of the finals series, and reached the Final Four of the Euro League. Two more wins in this competition (2006 - at the Final Four, he could not participate due to injury -, 2008) as well as a Finalist ( 2007), he celebrated with CSKA Moscow, where he was until 2008 under contract and also every year, won the Russian Championship. In addition, Andersen was founded in 2005 to € All League First Team selected. In 2008, he transferred to Spain for FC Barcelona.

On 15 July 2009 it was announced that the Houston Rockets had acquired the rights to NBA - Andersen, after he was drafted in 2002 by the Atlanta Hawks. In 2010 he transferred within the NBA to the Toronto Raptors, but in November of the same year the duties Andersen to the New Orleans Hornets. In 2011 he returned to Europe and signed a contract with Montepaschi Siena. On August 16th 2012 Fenerbahçe Ülker announced its commitment for 2 years. After winning the national cup competition in 2013 would retire but in the championship in the first play-off round. The new coach Zeljko Obradovic subsequently renounced the further services of Andersen and this finally signed in late January 2014, a new contract with the French vice champion Illkirch- Graffenstaden Basket from Strasbourg, but they were already eliminated from the ULEB Euro League 2013/14.

National team career

Andersen played in various youth teams of Australia and was awarded the Albert Schweitzer Tournament in 1998 as the most valuable player. He participated with the senior national team at the Olympic Games in 2004, 2008 and 2012 and was also the 2010 World Cup for Australian selection.
