David Atherton

David Atherton (born 3 January 1944 Blackpool ) is an English conductor.

David Atherton was appointed by Georg Solti Conductor of the Royal Opera House Covent Garden in 1968. At the same time Atherton was also active as a conductor of the London Sinfonietta. He was already at that time as an important representative of the new music. In the Opera House Covent Garden, he enjoyed great success and influenced by the musical life of London.

From 1989 to 2000 he was Music Director of the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra. In addition, he conducted many of the famous orchestra in the world. In addition to symphonic music includes operas to his artistic repertoire.
