David Bretherton

David Bretherton (* February 29, 1924 in Los Angeles, † 11 May 2000 Los Angeles ) was an American editor. For theater he was awarded in 1973 with the Oscar for Best Editing.

Life

David Bretherton was born the son of the cutter and director Howard Bretherton and actress Dorothea McEvoy in Los Angeles. During the Second World War he served in the United States Air Force. Then he started in the cutting department of 20th Century Fox to work. With his first movies Hilda Crane, prisoners of the current and The Invisible Front ( 1956) he distinguished himself for the first time independently responsible for the cut. His biggest success was the movie theater for which he was awarded in 1973 with the Oscar for Best Editing.

Bretherton was awarded in 1995 for his life's work the ACE Career Achievement Award.

On 11 May 2000 Bretherton died in John Douglas French Center in Los Angeles after a long illness of pneumonia. Until his death he was married to the editor Elyane Bretherton. With her he had two daughters together.
