David Brown was a British vehicle manufacturer. David Brown was and is a well known brand of tractor. Along with Harry Ferguson applies David Brown as one of the pioneers of modern tractor construction. The company belonged 1946-1972 the famous car brand Aston Martin and Lagonda from 1947 also.

History

David Brown was a skilled pattern maker and founded his first company in 1860 in Huddersfield, England. The primary business of the company was the manufacture of wooden gears for the textile industry in Huddersfield. In 1910, the company became the largest gear factory in the British Commonwealth. On a trip through the USA in the 1930s, the degree of mechanization of American farms, leaving the grandson of the company founder, a lasting impression. In 1929 built another tractor pioneer, Harry Ferguson, the "Black Tractor " with its patented hydraulic linkage. As part of a partnership with Harry Ferguson 1936 1.350 piece Ferguson -Brown Type A were prepared. However, the connection Ferguson Brown broke up again soon. Ferguson left England and went to the United States, where he later entered a partnership with Henry Ford.

The first David Brown tractor, the model VAK 1 (vehicle, agricultural, kerosene, model 1 ), was shown in 1939. Orders for 3,000 units were available, the number could not be maintained by the beginning of the Second World War. The actual production was only 1,000. After the war, production was resumed.

In 1946 David Brown took over the legendary car manufacturer Aston Martin and a year later the car company Lagonda. In 1965 the well-known yellow-red color scheme has been changed to white-brown. In 1972, David Brown Tractors became a subsidiary of Tenneco International Inc, Texas USA, and was incorporated into the Case Corporation. The tractors have now been produced with orange engine and transmission block. The automotive division was sold to a subsidiary of the Ford Motor Company. In 1983, the tractors were no longer being manufactured under the name of David Brown, but under the Case logo. Tenneco International Inc took over in 1985 also the traditional International Harvester Company ( IHC). The tractors now produced under the name Case-IH were sold in red and black Case-IH color scheme. The factory in Meltham Mills, in all David Brown tractors were manufactured, was concluded in 1988 after 52 years.
