David Byrne (politician)

David Byrne [ deɪvɪd bɜ ː n] ( born April 26, 1947) is an Irish politician and served until November 2004 Commissioner.

Byrne studied law and was admitted to the bar in 1970. After a career in the Irish Bar and a few excursions into politics as a consultant in individual legal issues In 1997 he was Attorney General.

He was from 1999 to 2004 Commissioner for Health and Consumer Protection of the European Commission.
