David Byron

David Byron ( born January 29, 1947 in Epping, England; † 28 February 1985 in Reading, actually David Garrick ) was an English musician.

David Byron was known as a singer and frontman of the rock band Uriah Heep, which he founded in 1970 together with Ken Hensley, Mick Box, Paul Newton and Alex Napier. His clear, melodic vocal style influenced the band significantly. In 1975, he released his first solo album, Take No Prisoners. The album, however, was commercially very successful. Tensions between Byron and Uriah Heep musical head Hensley transferred to the atmosphere in the band. Byron exaggerated his image as a front man of the band until he was dismissed by the other band members in 1976.

He then founded with former Humble Pie guitarist Clem Clempson and former Wings drummer Geoff Britton, the band Rough Diamond. With this band Byron followed the direction away from the experimental Hard Rock Uriah Heep towards straighter, drier Blue Rock. Rough Diamond published in 1977 a self-titled album and went on tour in America. After she separated from Byron, their name into Champion and played with a new singer another plate a. Byron continued his solo career. The album Baby Faced Killer was aligned musically commercial, but also gave only poor sales figures.

Byron founded after the young guitarist Robin George, a new rock project, The Byron band. In the debut performance of his band at London's Marquee Club Byron suffered a breakdown. It remained with the band in 1981 released album On the Rocks and the 1980 Single Every Inch of the Way for Byron. In 1985, he died from the effects of ever-increasing alcohol addiction.
