David Cairns (politician)

David Cairns ( born August 7, 1966 in Greenock, Scotland; † 9 May 2011) was a Scottish politician of the Scottish Labour Party.

Life

Cairns studied Roman Catholic theology at the Pontifical Gregorian University and the Franciscan training center in Canterbury. From 1991 to 1994 he worked as a Catholic priest in Scotland and London. In 1994, he left the Catholic priesthood and began a professional career as a politician. From 2001 to 2005 Cairns MP for the constituency of Inverclyde as successor to Norman Godman in the British House of Commons.Vom 1 July 2007 to September 16, 2008 Cairns was the successor of George Foulkes, Baron Foulkes of Cumnock was Secretary of State for Scotland. Cairns died of acute liver failure. He left behind his life partner.
