David Chaum

David Chaum ( May 3, 1955) is the inventor of some cryptographic protocols and was instrumental in the development of electronic payment instruments, including eCash. Chaum in 1990 founded the company DigiCash, a company for electronic financial transactions and was a member of the board. He was also the founder in 1982 of the International Association for Cryptologic Research ( International Association for Cryptologic Research - IACR ).

Chaum graduated from the University of California at Berkeley, a PhD in computer science and business administration. He then supervised postgraduate courses in business administration at New York University and the University of California.

David Chaum is the author of numerous scientific articles on cryptography and owner of many U.S. patents. Many of his ideas were directly or indirectly in the development of popular today, cryptographic security programs, including those that generally secure communication and any exchange of data on the Internet against tampering.

The international remailer network benefited greatly from Chaum's theoretical approaches.
