David is the capital of Chiriquí province of the Central American country of Panama and has approximately 124,500 inhabitants (calculated 2005). North-west past the city runs the Panamericana.

The city, San José de David is called officially, and, with its usually about 30 degrees Celsius temperatures lying as the hottest city in Panama. In the past, animal husbandry and agriculture were mainly operated. However, the city is also a major hub for trips to the highlands around Boquete and Volcan, Parque Nacional Volcán Baru as well as the islands of the Golfo de Chiriquí. The Aeropuerto Enrique Malek, the city has its own airport.

David is now the third largest city in Panama and also serves as a financial center and trade fair location. It is also a location for telecommunications and high technology. Also, some manufacturers of consumer goods have settled in conjunction with the heavy industry in the Greater David.
