David Cohen (politician)

David Cohen ( November 13, 1914 *, † October 3, 2005 in Philadelphia ) was an American politician of the Democratic Party. Until his death he was one of the oldest active politician of the United States.

The lawyer Cohen began his political career in 1935 as election workers. Since then, he has held numerous political offices. Most recently he was a member of the City Council of Philadelphia.

With increasing age, Cohen was repeatedly compared with Strom Thurmond of South Carolina, who resigned at the 100 years of the U.S. Senate. Cohen, however, remained rather in comparison with the MPs Claude Pepper of Florida, who was until his death at the age of 88 years in Congress.
