David Cunliffe-Lister, 2nd Earl of Swinton

David Cunliffe - Lister Yarburgh, 2nd Earl of Swinton ( born March 21, 1937 † 26 March 2006) was a British politician, judge and peer.

Life and career

Cunliffe - Lister was born on 21 March 1937 as a son of Major John Cunliffe - Lister Yarburgh and Anne Irvine Medlicott. On December 8, 1959, he married Susan Lilian Primrose. They had no biological children, but an adopted son and an adopted daughter.

Cunliffe - Lister attended Winchester College and the Royal Agricultural College in Cirencester. On July 27, 1972, he inherited from his grandfather the title of Earl of Swinton. In the House of Lords he was regularly participates in debates and served as Deputy Government Chief Whip ( Captain of the Yeomen of the Guard ). His seat in the Upper House he held until 11 November 1999 he was expelled by the House of Lords Act 1999.

The North Riding of Yorkshire Council, he was a member from 1961 to 1974. In the county of North Yorkshire, he belonged to the County Council, the County Council from 1973 to 1977. From 1982 to 1986 he was director of the Leeds Permanent Building Society.

The 2nd Earl of Swinton died on 26 March 2006 at the age of 69 years.
