David E. Rowe

David E. Rowe ( born August 11, 1950) is an American historian of science and mathematics.

Rowe studied mathematics and history of science at the University of Oklahoma. He earned his doctorate at the City University of New York. Rowe was the editor of Historia Mathematica. Since 1992 he is Professor of History of Mathematics and Natural Sciences at the Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz.

Rowe mainly dealt with the Göttingen mathematical tradition, including David Hilbert and Felix Klein and Albert Einstein, whose political environment and the development of general relativity as well as disputes about the theory of relativity in Germany.
