David Emerson

David Lee Emerson PC ( born September 17, 1945 in Montreal, Quebec ) is a Canadian politician of the Conservative Party of Canada.

Life

After schooling Emerson began studying economics at the University of Alberta and graduated after a Bachelor of Arts (BA Economics) in 1968, even with a Master of Arts (MA Economics) from 1970. In addition, he earned a Philosophiae Doctor ( Ph.D. Economics) from Queen's University in Kingston.

Emerson, the Party of Canada was until 2006 a member of the Liberals held office between 1984 and 1986 as Vice Minister of Finance and Deputy Minister to the then Prime Minister of British Columbia, Bill Bennett.

At the general election in 2004, Emerson was elected as a representative of the Liberal Party in the House of Commons and represents in this since the constituency of Vancouver Kingsway. Immediately after the election, Prime Minister Paul Martin appointed him as Minister of Industry in the 27th cabinet and this belonged to the end of Martin's tenure on February 5, 2006. At the same time, he became in 2004 a member of the Canadian Privy Council.

After Emerson was converted in 2006 to the Conservative Party, Prime Minister Stephen Harper appointed him on 6 February 2006 to the Minister of International Trade in the 28th cabinet. Following the resignation of Foreign Minister Maxime Bernier on 26 May 2008 Emerson was on 29 May 2008, his successor, and held this office until 29 October 2008.
