David Emmanuel (mathematician)

David Emmanuel (* January 31, 1854, † February 4, 1941 ) was a Romanian mathematician. He is considered one of the founders of modern mathematical research in Romania.

Born in Bucharest in a poor Jewish family, Emmanuel 1879 at the Sorbonne in mathematics doctorate ( Étude de troisième of intégrales abéliennes espèce ). In 1882 he became professor of higher algebra and function theory in Bucharest.

He taught group theory and Galois theory in 1888 and published from 1924 to 1927 a two-volume textbook of function theory.

His students include Ţiţeica Gheorghe Simion Stoilov and Traian Lalescu.

He was an honorary member of the Romanian Academy.
