David Flusser

David Flusser ( born September 15, 1917 in Vienna, † 15 September 2000 in Jerusalem) was a Jewish religious scholar, researcher of Palestinian and rabbinic traditions of Judaism, the Qumran scrolls and the New Testament.

Life

Flusser grew up in Prague. He emigrated in 1939 after the occupation of the Czech Republic by the regime of National Socialism to Palestine. There he became in 1962 Professor of Comparative Religion History at the University of Jerusalem. He was a member of the Israel Academy of Sciences and recipient of the Israel Prize. His main focus was on the exploration of the New Testament and his rabbinic background, where he heranzog the Qumran writings. Flusser was involved in Jewish-Christian dialogue and worked with Clemens Thoma, director of the Institute for Jewish-Christian Research IJCF in Lucerne together. In the winter semester 1975/76 Flusser, where he worked as a visiting professor.

Flusser dominated beside German, English, Czech and Hebrew numerous ancient languages. He is the cousin of Vilém Flusser.
