David Gates

David Gates ( born December 11, 1940 in Tulsa, Oklahoma) is an American singer-songwriter and was lead singer of the rock group Bread.

He composed the ballad If and the rock song Guitar Man. Before the emergence of the band Bread, he was a composer and studio musician. 1978 composed and sang the theme song for the Gates movie The Goodbye Girl.

For his deceased father, he wrote the song Everything I own. The song was, inter alia, gecovert in 1987 by Boy George.
