David H. Armstrong

David Hartley Armstrong ( born October 21, 1812 in Nova Scotia, Canada; † 18 March 1893, in St. Louis, Missouri ) was a U.S. Representative (Democratic Party), who represented the state of Missouri in the U.S. Senate.

After he had attended the Maine Wesleyan Seminary, David Armstrong initially worked himself from 1833 to 1837 as a teacher in New Bedford (Massachusetts ). After that, he lived for a short time in St. Louis and Lebanon (Illinois ), where he also worked as a teacher. In 1838 he was re- established in Missouri and head of the public school of Benton, which he remained until 1847. After that, he was until 1850 Head of Financial Management ( Comptroller ) from St. Louis and 1854-1858 postmaster of the city. From 1873 to 1876 he sat on the Board of Police Commissioners; He also was a member of a committee of landowners of St. Louis.

As a U.S. Senator Lewis V. Bogy died on September 20, 1877, David Armstrong was appointed to succeed him in Congress in Washington. His term lasted from 29 September of the same year to January 26, 1879; for the by-election that decided James Shields for himself, he did not present himself. Armstrong was then no longer politically active, and died 1893 in St. Louis.
