David Hambartsumyan

Dawit Hambarzumjan (Armenian Դավիթ Համբարծումյան; * June 24, 1956 in Kapan, † January 11, 1992 in Yerevan ) was a Soviet- Armenian diver, who started in the 10 -meter platform diving. He participated in three consecutive Olympic Games and won a bronze medal, he also won two European titles.

Hambarzumjan came up with nine years for water jumping and started for the club Dynamo Yerevan. At age 16 he took in Munich at the Olympic Games in 1972 and was fifth of 10 - m tower. At the World Championships 1973 in Belgrade and 1975 in Cali, he came seventh from the tower. In Montreal Hambarzumjan took part in the 1976 Olympic Games. He reached from the tower again the final and finished seventh. In 1977 Hambarzumjan won his first international medal at the European Championships in Jönköping with silver. He celebrated his sporty greatest success at the Olympic Games in Moscow in 1980, where he won the bronze medal behind Falk Hoffmann and Vladimir Aleinik. Successful Hambarzumjan was also at the European Championships 1981 in Split, 1983 in Rome, where he was able to win the title from each 10 - m tower. Through the Olympic boycott of the Soviet team, he missed the Olympic Games 1984. During the same year he ended his active career. Overall Hambarzumjan could in his career 15 win national titles.

After his death in 1992, the Armenian youth development center for water Springer in Yerevan was named after Hambarzumjan.
