David Hemblen

David Hemblen (* in London, England) is a British- Canadian actor.

Life and achievements

David Hemblen was born in London but grew up in the Canadian city of Toronto. There he attended the mid-1960s the University of Toronto and graduated as a Master of Arts ( MA) in English Literature. He worked there as a lecturer. While studying the Middle Ages in order to acquire the title of Ph. D., director Clifford Williams spotted him by the Royal Shakespeare Company at a rehearsal at the university and hired him promptly to the Royal Alexandra Theatre in Toronto. After two years of studying Hemblen and play-acting, he broke his studies in 1968 and devoted himself to only the art of acting. He never went to drama school, but later taught there myself.

In the first two decades of his career to Hemblen devoted mainly to the theater and joined, among others, on the Stratford Festival and the Shaw Festival in Niagara -on-the -Lake. He appeared in over seventy Canadian theater productions as an actor and theater director. From 1986 he turned mainly to the film camera and synchronized as well. During his forty year career, he was seen among others in the films Basements (1987 ) by Robert Altman, M. Butterfly (1993 ) by David Cronenberg, Mesmer ( 1994) by Roger Spottiswoode and Salem Witch Trials (2002) by Joseph Sargent. Eight films turned Hemblen with the Canadian director Atom Egoyan, such as the two -time Academy Award -nominated drama film The Sweet Hereafter (1997). Hemblen often embodies authority figures and character roles. His internationally best-known role is probably Jonathan Doors Mission in eighteen episodes of the science fiction television series Earth. In six episodes of dramatic spy series Nikita he delivered himself as a mighty George a power struggle with Operations, played by Eugene Robert Glazer.

Hemblen was for Best Actor for the film Drama Family Pictures ( Family Viewing ) nominated for a Genie Award in 1988. For his role in the play Uncle Vanya by Anton Pavlovich Chekhov, he was nominated as Best Actor for the Dora Mavor Moore Award.

He lives in Toronto and southern France. His daughter Kate is also an actress.
