David Hunt (botanist)

David Richard Hunt ( born September 25, 1938 in London ) is an English botanist. His botanical author abbreviation is " DRHunt ".

Life and work

Hunt received from Cambridge University in 1959 with a Bachelor of Arts (BA) and 1963 the Master of Arts ( MA). In 1983 he received the doctoral degree ( PhD) from the University of Reading.

Hunt works (s) at the Royal Botanic Gardens at Kew. He was from 1968 to 1982 editor of Curtis 's Botanical Magazine. From 1964 to 2005 he was at Conifer Nomenclature Committee of the Royal Horticultural Society. From 1974 to 1994 he was Secretary and / or editor of the International Organization for Sukkulentenforschung. The International Dendrology Society, he was from 1990 to 2003 in the Council and the Scientific Committee and from 1992 to 1995 editor. From 1989 to 1991 he worked at the Council of Management of the Cornwall Gardens Trust.

His areas of expertise are the families of plants cacti ( Cactaceae ) and Commelina family ( Commelinaceae ).

Honors

The specific epithet of the carnivorous plant Utricularia huntii from the kind of water hoses has been awarded in his honor.

Writings (selection )

For Volume 13 edited by R. McVaugh Flora Novo- Galiciana Hunt wore the chapter on the plant family Commelinaceae at ( University of Michigan Herbarium, pages 130-201 ). For volume 6 of Flora Mesoamericana ( subtitled " Alismataceae to Cyperacaea ", first published in March 1994), he also contributed the chapter on the plant family Commelinaceae. He also contributed to the WD Stevens at the Missouri Botanical Garden Press published Flora de Nicaragua, published for the 2001 Volume 1 Chapter in Commelinaceae ( pages 638-650 ).
