David Knopfler
David Knopfler (* December 27 1952 in Glasgow ) is a Scottish musician and together with his brother Mark Knopfler one of the founding members of Dire Straits.
Musical career
On the first two albums Dire Straits ( Dire Straits and Communiqué ) played Knopfler rhythm guitar. He later left Dire Straits because he felt creatively and emotionally concentrated and inhibited in his musical development, and launched a solo career.
In 1983, he released his first solo album release. On the song Madonna 's Daughter, his brother Mark and John Illsley of Dire Straits have participated. His second album, Behind the Lines, which is published in 1984, is heavily influenced by synthesizer sounds. A year later (1985 ) he released his third album, Cut the Wire. Followed in 1988 Lips Against the Steel, which was released as his previous albums on A & M Records in the U.S..
His fifth album Lifelines was released in 1991 and was recorded in Peter Gabriel's Real World Studios. With the support of his long-time friend Harry Bogdanov such pieces as Rise Again, Like Lovers Do, Falling and Guiding Star. Appeared in 1993, the album The Giver, which is characterized by simple arrangements. 1995 and 2001 was followed by the album Small Mercies and Wishbones. In some pieces of Wishbones and the 2004 release CD Ship of legend Chris Rea plays with. Julia Neigel sings with him on the German release a duet on " Tears Fall ". Knopfler has collaborated among others with Amilia Spicer and Megan Slankard.
In 2006 he received his 10th album " Songs For The Siren " and 2008 Best of album " Compilation" published. In 2009 they had the latter compilation with a bonus track called " The Anthology 1983 -2008 ". In September 2011 he went with his longtime partner Harry Bogdanov in a London studio and recorded " live in the studio " 18 acoustic songs, including seven new compositions. The double CD was released in October 2011.
Other activities
During the 1990s David Knopfler has worked alongside his musical activities as a professional developer of web pages. He created for various companies and institutions websites and worked intensively with techniques of web design. He also supplemented his range of services to the areas of e-commerce, e-publishing, HTML, and Internet consulting.
