David L. Rabinowitz

David Lincoln Rabinowitz ( born 1960 ) is an American astronomer at the University of Yale with the main research areas of the Kuiper belt and outer solar system.

Together with Michael E. Brown and Chad Trujillo, he discovered several trans-Neptunian objects:

  • ( 90377 ) Sedna
  • ( 90482 ) Orcus
  • ( 136199 ) Eris (originally known under the provisional name 2003 UB313, unofficially Xena ), which is larger than Pluto.
  • ( 136472 ) Makemake (originally known under the provisional name 2005 FY9; unofficially Easter Bunny)

But he discovered the Centaur asteroid 5145 Pholus.

The asteroid ( 5040 ) Rabinowitz was named after him.
