David Lewis (Designer)

David Whitfield Lewis ( born February 19, 1939 in London, † November 9, 2011 in Denmark ) was a designer who was known for his work with Bang and Olufsen.

Life

Lewis grew up in London and attended from 1957 to 1960, the Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design. Then he moved to Denmark. In 1965 he came to Bang and Olufsen, where he first worked as a freelancer. He cared mainly about the design of audio and video systems. His first work was the Beolab 5000th He developed for Bang Olufsen and the design of video systems LX and MX, different speaker systems and remote controls. In the 1970s he opened his own design studio in Copenhagen, but worked mainly for Bang Olufsen and. His other clients also belonged L. Goof, Vestfrost, Voss and Electrolux.

His most famous works, the Beocord VX5000, the subwoofer and the speakers Beovox Cona Beolab 6000 are housed in the New York Museum of Modern Art.

In November 2001 he received the title of Royal Designer for Industry (RDI ). In Denmark in 2002 was awarded the Dannebrogorden and the Danish Design Council Award in 2003. His last work was the laptop Asus NX90, which he presented at the CeBit 2010. Lewis died on November 9, 2011.
