David Lumsdaine

David Lumsdaine (born 31 October 1931 in Sydney ) is an Australian composer.

Lumsdaine studied at the Conservatory and the University of Sydney, was from 1953 students of Mátyás Seiber and finally by Lennox Berkeley at the Royal Academy of Music in London. He composed several cantatas to texts by Peter Porter and established his reputation as a composer of orchestral works such as Kelly Ground ( 1966) Flights ( 1967), Mandalas 1 (1967) and Manadalas 2 (1969).

Since the 1960s, he was also a sought-after music teacher. From 1970 he taught at the University of Durham, where he founded a studio for electronic music. Later, he held a professorship at King's College London together with his wife, the composer Nicola LeFanu. After his retirement from academic life in 1993, he moved to York, where his wife works as a music professor at the University.
