David MacDonald (politician)

David Samuel Horne Macdonald, PC ( born August 20, 1936 in Charlottetown ) is a Canadian politician.

Macdonald was first elected in 1965 as a member of the Progressive Conservative Party of Canada in the Province of Prince Edward Iceland to the Canadian House of Commons. After the 1979 election, he became Minister of Communications and for women (Minister responsible for the Status of Women ), and Secretary of State in the Cabinet of Prime Minister Joe Clark.

In 1980 he lost his seat in Parliament. As a representative of Toronto - Rosedale, he was from 1988 to 1993 again a Member of the House of Commons. He earned a reputation as a "Red Tory ", that is, a representative left positions within the conservatism (as opposed to "Blue Tory "). He moved in 1997 to the social democratic New Democratic Party, however, as their candidate, he lost the election in the same year against its competitors Bill Graham.

In 1998 he became an adviser to the United Church of Canada to the problem of residential schools.
