David Mansfield

David Mansfield ( born 1956 in Leonia, New Jersey) is an American composer and multi-instrumentalist. Mansfield plays, among others, violin, mandolin, guitar, steel guitar, Mando Cello, Viola, Cello and Organ.

His first band, in which also played two sons of Tony Bennett, he called Quacky Duck and His Barnyard Friends.

In 1975 he was a member of Bob Dylan's Rolling Thunder Revue and remained in Dylan's band until his world tour in 1978. 1976 he founded with T-Bone Burnett and Steven Soles The Alpha band.

In 1986 he was a founding member of Bruce Hornsby and the Range, the band left but before their first tour.

Since the end of The Alpha band Mansfield worked as a studio musician, among others, Bob Dylan, T -Bone Burnett, Johnny Cash, Nanci Griffith, Roger McGuinn, Sam Phillips, Mark Heard, The Roches, Edie Brickell, Spinal Tap, Lucinda Williams, Dwight Yoakam.

1980 Mansfield was initially intended only as an actor for a supporting role in Michael Cimino's Heaven's Gate film, but eventually wrote also his first film score.
