David Martínez (racing driver)

David Martínez León ( born December 8, 1981 in Monterrey, Nuevo León) is a Mexican racing driver.

Career

After Martínez began his motorsport career in karting, he moved to Formula racing. In 1996 he won the championship title of the Mexican Formula 2 Then came a season in the Mexican Formula 3000. From 1999 to 2001 he was active in the Mexican Formula 3 Championship. After ranking fourth in the first year, he was twice third. In 2002, he competed in the Mexican Formula Renault and decided the championship titles. In addition, Martínez took this season part in a race in the Atlantic Championship, finishing in 31st place overall.

2003 Martínez competed in the Barber Dodge Pro Series and finished fourth in the drivers' standings. In 2004 he moved to Europe and started for Cram Competition in Formula Renault V6 Eurocup. With a fifth place as best result, he finished the season in 17th place overall. 2005 Martínez returned to North America and entered for U.S. Tronics Race in the Atlantic Championship. Although he remained a victory denied, with four podium finishes he finished the season, however, on the fifth place in the drivers' standings. After he had taken part in the Winter 2005/2006 for the Mexican team of four A1 Grand Prix, he returned in 2006 to U.S. Race Tronics in the Atlantic Championship back and he was fifth in the championship. He also replaced at Forsythe Racing for the injured Paul Tracy at the season finale of the Champ Car. He was ahead of his teammate Buddy Rice in ninth place finish, finishing in 22nd place overall. In 2007, he took for Forsythe Racing participated in two other Champ Car races and finished the season off on the 20th Place. At the other races he did not participate in this season.

2008 Martínez took part in the first season finale of the A1 Grand Prix. He then took part in a race in the IndyCar Series for Forsythe / Pettit Racing. The race was also the last race of the Champ Car, which had ceased racing for the 2008 season. Martínez came in eighth place finish and was at the end of the season 41st in the overall standings. 2009 joined the racers to just one race in the Grand-Am Sports Car Series. He was 45th in the DP rating. In 2010, Martínez for Genoa Racing to race in the Indy Lights in part two. He finished in 25th place in the drivers' standings.
