David P. Holloway

David Pierson Holloway ( born December 7, 1809 in Waynesville, Warren County, Ohio; † September 9, 1883 in Washington DC ) was an American politician. Between 1855 and 1857 he represented the State of Indiana in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

In 1813 David Holloway came with his parents to Cincinnati, where he attended the public schools. He then completed an apprenticeship in the printing trade. He worked for four years for the newspaper " Cincinnati Gazette". 1823 Holloway moved to Richmond in Indiana. There he acquired in 1832 the newspaper " Richmond Palladium", whose publisher and editor he remained until his death.

At the same time he began a political career. In 1843 and 1844 he was a member of the House of Representatives of Indiana; 1844-1850 he was a member of the State Senate. In 1849 he was appointed auditor of the cadastral offices ( Examiner of Land Offices). In the congressional elections of 1854 Holloway was short-lived as a candidate of the opposition party in the fifth electoral district of Indiana in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Samuel W. Parker on March 4, 1855. Until March 3, 1857, he was able to complete a term in Congress. These were determined by the events leading up to the Civil War. During his time as a congressman Holloway was chairman of the Agriculture Committee.

Between 1861 and 1865 David Holloway acted as a patent officer. Afterwards he worked until his death on 9 September 1883 as a patent attorney in the federal capital, Washington.
