David Peck Todd

David Peck Todd ( born March 19, 1855 in Lake Ridge, New York, † June 1, 1939 in Lynchburg ) was an American astronomer.

Life

Todd studied from 1870 to 1872 at Columbia University and then from 1873 to 1875 at Amherst College. In 1878 he graduated from Amherst in the MA. In 1888 he received his doctorate at Washington and Jefferson College for Ph. D..

Todd worked from 1875 to 1878 at the U.S. Naval Observatory, and from 1878 to 1881 at the U.S. Nautical Almanac Office. From 1881 to 1917 he was professor of astronomy and director of the observatory at Amherst College. From 1882 to 1887, he was also a professor of astronomy and higher mathematics at Smith College.

1909 David Todd suggested before by research balloons and radio receivers check for any extraterrestrial radio signals.
