David Prosser (bishop)

David Lewis Prosser (* June 10, 1868, † February 28, 1950 in Abergwili ) was an Anglican bishop and primate of the Church in Wales.

Prosser was born in June 1868 as the son of David Prosser and his wife Elizabeth. He attended Llandovery College and Keble College, University of Oxford, where he graduated with a third- class honors degree in history in 1891 and a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in 1895 and a Master of Arts (MA ) received.

Prosser was consecrated on December 18, 1892 by Basil Jones, the Bishop of St. David's as a deacon and was curate of Holy Trinity Church, Aberystwyth. He received his priestly ordination on 21 December 1893. In 1896, Prosser was curate of Christ Church in Swansea. This post he held until 1909, when he was appointed Vicar of Pembroke Dock. 1920 Prosser was appointed Archdeacon of St. David's. In 1927 he was appointed Bishop of St. David's. When Charles Alfred Howell Green resigned in 1944 from the Office of the Archbishop of Wales, Prosser was elected the new archbishop. Prosser held that post until his resignation in 1949. He died on 28 February 1950 in Abergwili and was buried there.

In 1949, Prosser had received an Honorary Doctorate Doctor of Laws from the University of Wales.
